Gold Hill 8 – 2 Kings High Wycombe
Gold Hill respond in style by putting 8 past lowly Kings putting the common boys in good stead for the upcoming semi-final against St Clements. The Golds were able to field a very strong side for this fixture at the Rye with key influential figures returning to the team, including Sam, Jonno and the Arbroath wizard himself, Kev Williamson.
Gold Hill began the game well, but Chamberlain demand more from the team and duly responded to the plea, as Adshead was able to break the deadlock thanks to some decisive passing from Sam and great work from Jonno on the left flank. Adshead was then able to finish the first half on a hatrick as Gold Hill were able to exploit Kings’ the lack of pace at the back – a fine first half performance from the sharp shooter looking shaper than he has all season.
At half time the score was 3-0. Chamberlain warned the team about complacency and demanded more from the side. Unfortunately, what seems like a trend this season, Gold Hill were asleep in the first five minutes and conceded a soft goal – leaving fingers being pointed by the gaffer. However that was the wake up call the team needed as they quickly got back into their stride. The second half saw Gold Hill score some excellent team and individual goals – Tim De Vletter scored two close range efforts (in comparison with Bevan’s 55 yard screamer earlier in the season) and Adshead added to his tally volleying home from a P.Gledhill Neville cross. Addshead then went on to score another bring his tally for the afternoon to five and Jonno, the returning Kiwi, was able to round the keep only to see his shot turned in by the Kings defender....OWN GOAL!
One sour note was that Kings were able to score a second consolation goal as Stu Laws was unable to prevent a tame shot from bobbling over him...meaning that the Gold Hill number one has been beaten by a bobble in two consecutive game. On a more positive note for the WAG hunting goalkeeper, he did produce some good goal kicks which will definitely impress the ladies.
The game therefore finished 8-2 and will definitely boost the confidence in the camp for the upcoming semi-final. With some excellent performance, competition for places is now hotting up and everyone will have to put in 100% at training and in matches if they wish to obtain a place in the starting line for the big game on the 22nd!
The message from the gaffer is clear...'NO BODY'S PLACE IS A SHAY GIVEN!! '
