Manager Thomas confident in three trophy offensive
Gold Hill Vets Manager today was in buyount mood when asked about his teams chances in their attempts to bring back an unprecedented three trophies to the club, known as a 'Pepe', after Barcelona's manager Pepe Guardiola won the three premier titles avail to the club.
Thomas, in his debut season as manager, has had what he describes as 'the easiest introduction to management a man can have'.
"I feel privileged and very lucky to have such a committed core of players available to me. I know other managers in the league are struggling to put out teams, but for me it's very rare that I won't have a full squad of 14 for a game. The guys should be proud of what I already consider a very successful season.'
Thomas is not sitting on his laurels though, as he is desperate to get at least one piece of silverware before the campaign is over.
"There are three trophies up for grabs, and I really want to go and try to get all of them. We're in a good position in the league, in the semi-finals of the Derek Ridgely Plate, and of course the over-35's have done tremendously well to reach the final of the National Vets Cup. I believe we have the talent to beat anyone, so whilst I'm not complacent, I do strongly have faith in my team to do the business"
Gold Hill return to league action after a break for their crusades in the two cups, by hosting Hazlemere Saints on the common, and Thomas wants to avenge the previous two fixtures against the Wycombe club.
"We haven't really showed Hazlemere what we're made of yet. It took a great escape to draw with them 2-2 in the league, when Robbie and Adam (Blanchot) scored in the last 5 mins to rescue the game. In the cup, we were beaten comprehensively by them, although the wind had a massive factor in that game, but we can only blame ourselves for the loss"
Thomas is confident in his strong team against Saints at the weekend, and is anticipating a strong performance.
"We've not got our usual centre back pairing for this game, but all over the team there's quality, and we can adapt to meet the challenge."
